Recent Goodwill Finds

On a few trips to Goodwill lately I found a few treasures.

This past Saturday after dropping Joanna off at swim lessons ( Jeanne, Jessica and Andrew were all at the pool) Aimee, Jake and I stopped at the nearest Goodwill.  I found a cute black and white dress and a couple of sweaters, Jess found a summer dress (she joined us later), Aimee found a few tops and athletic pants, Jake found a few old Veggietales tapes he couldn’t live without.  In the back of the store in the house wares section they were having a $0.10 sale on cups, saucers, and plates.  I found this lovely set of  dishes (fine china Royal Court Carnation Japan) in soft pink and grey.  51 pieces for…….. get this $5.10!  I can’t decide if  I’m going to keep them or gift them.  Know anyone who might like them? ;)

There are six full place settings and two settings minus the cup and saucer and a few spare pieces.  All in excellent condition no scratches or chips.  I think they were made in the 40’s of 50’s if not then definitely in that style.

I bought these two cute aqua/floral bowls.  Wouldn’t fried rice be so yummy from these.

Cute vintage pitcher to hold delicious fresh squeezed orange juice.

Lovely white compote to go with all of my white serving pieces.

All at fabulous Goodwill prices.

On another recent GW trip I bought a $9.99 coffee table that we’re going to revamp for our family room.  I’ll post before and afters of that when we tackle that project.

Yesterday was Goodwill’s $2 skirt day, so after I drove to Broussard to unlock Andrew’s car ( he locked himself out at work) I stopped at the Goodwill there and found a few goodies.  I found 5 skirts for the girls.  Really cute skirts mostly spring  and summer skirts but a couple they can wear now.

Cute glasses and I now have 4 of these pretty little dishes.  I know someone who just bought a couple of these.  She should sell them to me then I would have six in my collection.

An Afternoon of Shopping

Yesterday after finishing our school work for the day Aimee, Jake, Jo and I spent the afternoon shopping with Aunt Katy.

First we went to Reflections of Olde on Congress, then Jefferson Street Market, another antique shop down on Jefferson toward Pinhook, then onto the Goodwill on Bertrand (where we met up with Nicole and Greta), next was the Goodwill on Ambassador Caffery, then the Brit and Bay Home Decor store on Ambassador (oh my such loverly things), then a quick run into Payless and last but not least the new Paul Michaels store in River Ranch ( double oh my, lets just say you should go).  Fun afternoon and the kids were really good.  Katy was shopping for a bed for Erica and a table and chairs for her new den.

Jo Jo found a hat at Reflections of Olde that struck her fancy.

Too Cute.

At Goodwill she found a book she just couldn’t live without and insisted on taking a picture with it.

pictures 371 I found a cute iron table for the front porch that needs a little rehab, and a pair of shorts for Jeanne.  All in all a fun afternoon.

PS. Katy, I just thought of another place we can look for a bed for Erica.  Call Me.

Christ the King Yard Sale Finds

Our parish had our annual yard sale this weekend and  it was a success.   I managed to find a few of things that caught my eye.

The pretty Wexford  pressed glass compote for $1.  I saw the same one at a flea market last week on sale half price for $9.95. Oh and it matches my Wexford Punch bowls and cups.  The precious domed lid butter dish was $1.00 too.  I also picked up jeans, a dress shirt, and a long sleeve T-shirt for Jake, a couple of pairs of work pants for Andrew, and a few books for the kids.  As my Mother-in-Law would have said “I’m happy with my purchases.”

Wednesday’s Finds

Yesterday Katy and I took a little trip to St. Martin and St. Landry Parishes.  In  Breaux Bridge at Something Old Something new I found a sweet little sugar dish in the violet/gold rim set that I love.  ( I forgot it in her truck so no pic)  At Bayou Town I found 4 pink depression glass goblets to extend my colletion to 13.  These glasses look lovely with the  white and pink dishes Normand got me for Christmas last year.

After leaving Bayou Town we drove over a block or so and had lunch at Cafe Des Amis.  For starters we had a divine cup of seafood and corn bisque with the most yummy tender french bread.  For our entree we each decided to get an appetizer Katy got the eggplant wheels over a scrumptious creamy crawfish au-gratin and I got crawfish cornbread over a creole crawfish etoufee.  Divine and huge portions let me tell ya.   Please forgive us for not taking pictures of the food.  I guess we were just to hungry to think of it. Then we took ourselves to the shop across from St. Bernard's Catholic Church where I  Katy found a cute ball jar with a glass.  She said it would be a great container for me put a little sumthin sumthin in for her.

We then drove north to Arnaudville to the St. Therese Wednesday garage sale.  Where I found a few cute apothecary jars to add to my collection.

Then we decided that since we were in the area we should just drive on down to Grand Coteau and check out the shops there.  We went to the Kitchen Shop and browsed around and looked at all the lovely things there.  I picked up a Pumpkin Cranberry Scone mix.  I can’t wait to try it.   We then strolled on over to Creola Cafe and had the most scrumptious Pecan Apple Caramel Pie with vanilla ice cream.  Oh so good.  Oh so full.  Good Company, Good Day.  Thanks Katy for letting me tag along.

Before and After

I’m joining Susan over at Between Naps on the Porch  for:

Pic for Body of Blog3

Go over for a visit and see what every one is up to.

On the way home from swimming last week I stopped at GoodWill and found this.

Go Saints 3-0

I used freezer paper to make a stencil, ironed it onto the pillow case, painted on the fleur de lis with black fabric paint.  I Lurve It!

It adds a bit of cozy comfort to the rocker on the porch.

You can find directions for the freezer paper stencil here.  I can think of lots of fun things to do with this idea.  Hopefully things I’ll do this coming week.

Saturday's Thrifty Finds

Join Southern Hospitality for a Mister Linky feast of thrifty finds.

a big honkin bag of brand new pencils, 2 photo albums, blue glass candy dish, St. Joseph's missal, 18 in straw wreath, a lamp, a booster seat and a bed canopy (it's already in the wash)

8 fruit bowls in my china pattern for a special sister

This morning I got up at the *** crack of dawn and took my lil ole self to some garage sales. It wasn't a fabulous day, but I did find myself a few things. Along the way I met up with Jeanine (the birthday girl) and we shopped together for a bit. She found a nice lamp and made a good deal on it. After we exhausted the garage sales we stopped at the Pinhook Flea Market. I found a St. Joseph's Sunday Missal then I spied with my little eye two chandeliers hanging behind the counter. I think they would be fabulous after a little makeover and would be perfect for Jeanine's dining room. They are asking $69 each but I think she could get them for less. We'll see.
