Before and After

I’m joining Susan over at Between Naps on the Porch  for:

Pic for Body of Blog3

Go over for a visit and see what every one is up to.

On the way home from swimming last week I stopped at GoodWill and found this.

Go Saints 3-0

I used freezer paper to make a stencil, ironed it onto the pillow case, painted on the fleur de lis with black fabric paint.  I Lurve It!

It adds a bit of cozy comfort to the rocker on the porch.

You can find directions for the freezer paper stencil here.  I can think of lots of fun things to do with this idea.  Hopefully things I’ll do this coming week.

Daddy brought me some  blackberries from his  garden last week.    I cooked them down with a little sugar and so far we have enjoyed them on vanilla  ice cream and Aimee’s strawberry cake.  They’ll also be fabulous on pancakes, waffles, toast and biscuits.  Thanks Daddy.  Oh yeah, he also brought me a bag of frozen figs that I canned also.  ;)

Morning Coffee

This morning I enjoyed my nice hot cup of  Community Dark Roast in this precious new coffee cup.  Katy and David went on a little flea market trip yesterday to Washington, LA  and  bought it for me.   Thank you my lovely sister.   The cup and saucer matches a set of dishes I found at Goodwill last week.    So I took a few pictures of it on the front porch this morning.   Enjoy

Yummy Crabs

Yesterday I got a call from my Daddy.
Daddy "Hey you want some crabs? I've got a couple of dozen. Call Normand and tell him to pick them up on his way home."
Me "Yes!!!!!"

After a few frantic calls to Normand he finally called me back and picked up these yummy crustaceans. They were full and fat and such a wonderful treat.

I'm In Love....... With Eggplant!

If Heaven were a food I think it just might be this dish. Well Jessica and I think so anyway.
For lunch Friday Jessica and I decided to cook up some eggplant from Jacob's garden. We have been having lots of eggplant lately and we're not complaining.
First we sliced, battered, and coated the eggplant with wheat thin and saltine cracker crumbs. Then we very carefully pan fried them in olive oil.
Then we layered them with feta cheese, tomatoes, provolone cheese, sauteed onion rings and topped them with mozzarella cheese and put them under the broiler to brown the cheese. Oh my goodness the results were outstanding. Heaven on a plate and on my palate.

Served with pan grilled salmon topped with sauteed onion rings.

Wish you could have had some.

Baking Day

I woke up Friday morning in the mood to bake. Sooo I looked around the pantry to see what I could come up with and decided to make Pear Cake, German Chocolate Cookies, Chewy Chocolate Walnut Cookies and Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Keepin it real. I'm a very messy cook.

The cookies are delicious. The Chocolate Chewy ones were the big hit. I love the German Chocolate ones with just a little coconut.

I love how the pear cake came out. Very heavy and fall tasting. My family is happy all of the cookie jars are full.

Happy Fall Y'all

Pear Cake

1 1/2 c vegetable oil
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
Mix well. Add:
3 c. finely chopped, peeled canning pears
1 c pecans
3 c flour
1 t soda
1 t salt
1 t apple pie spice
2 t vanilla
Mix well. The batter is very very heavy.
Bake at 300 degrees until brown (about 40 minutes) in two 9-in pans or 3 8-in pans. You may also use a tube pan for this cake. The tube pan will take considerably longer check it every 10 minutes after the first 40 minutes.
